Various cruise ship calls are being closed on the occasion of the departure of the Holy Week and El Rocío Brotherhoods.

A delegation from the Port of Huelva and HuelvaPort, which was present on 14 and 15 September at the international cruise industry event Seatrade Cruise Med in Malaga, has held meetings with representatives of multiple shipping lines and shipping companies in which in addition to promoting new cruise calls, has closed an agreement with the shipping company Seadream Yacht Club to call at the port of Huelva in the month of May 2024 to coincide with the departure of the Brotherhoods on their pilgrimage to the pilgrimage of El Rocío.

The president of the Port of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, who has already held meetings on other occasions with the vice-president of Itineraries and Destinations of the cruise company Seadream Yacht Club, Emilio Freeman, highlighted that “last year we defined the new cruise strategy aimed at the luxury segment to receive cruise passengers with high purchasing power at the Levante wharf and at this congress we are obtaining the fruits of the work carried out. In this way, we have closed new calls with important shipping companies in this sector. We have also detected a special interest of the shipping companies in the departure of the brotherhoods at Easter and in their pilgrimage to El Rocío, as well as in our cultural heritage and environmental wealth”. Likewise, Pilar Miranda added that “this agreement is a first step towards consolidating high-level tourism linked to the Port, the city and the province, around our culture and folklore, tourist resources related to our protected natural areas such as the Doñana Park and its surroundings, the Marismas del Odiel Natural Park, the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, our beaches, the English legacy, the Colombian deeds, as well as our rich and varied gastronomy”.

During these days, the representatives of HuelvaPort and the Port of Huelva have also held meetings with other shipping companies such as Scenic Cruises, a company of Australian origin, which offers differentiated experiences, expeditions and tours on cruises in the high-level “luxury” segment. Meetings have also been organised with the French luxury shipping company  , whose ship Le Bougainville recently called at the Port of Huelva. The Port of Huelva has attended this exhibition in collaboration with Suncruise Andalusia, an Association   of General Interest and the Public Ports Agency of Andalusia, which aims to promote Andalusia as a tourist destination for cruises, and the public body of State Ports.

According to the organisers of the international cruise meeting of the Mediterranean countries and their adjacent areas, the exhibition is expected to be attended by 2,000 participants and 150 exhibitors from 70 countries.
