This achievement marks a milestone in the national energy revolution by manufacturing the first 100% vegetable-based sustainable fuel for common use.

Nowadays one of the greatest challenges that science has to face is to abandon the fossil oils that they are majority of oils been use since the 19th century industrial revolution and start using oils that does not have a CO2 impact. This is call decarbonization. Finally, Huelva came up with the answer. A  group made of five engineers, four of them are from Huelva, together as a working group made of fifteen people, they have been available to make the first 100% sustainable biofuel in Spain. This is a milestone for the Spanish industry came up from the talent of the La Rabida Energy Park in Palos de la Frontera.

This journey started just 18 months ago. Theirs was an artisan task of ingenuity because they had to respond to a new need, adapt a disused plant with several decades of life and in the process find solutions to the problems that arose. The need for a green turn set by Europe forces energy companies to contribute a percentage of sustainable fuel to traditional fossil fuels. Today that contribution is already around 11% in Cepsa products.

A not too far away future stablish the need to have 100% green fuels for common use. With this challenge they got down to work in La Rabida in April 2021, although the conceptual idea is earlier. Altogether between 18 and 24 months of work.  The deadline is “lightning speed” in any investigation.
